Counselling provides you with a confidential opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe-environment. Counsellors are non-judgemental and are trained to see self-defeating behaviours and other patterns of behaviour that can cause inner conflict, negative thought patterns and beliefs. Their role is to help you look and and overcome any issues you may have.
There are several different ways of counselling. I use an integrative approach which means that I use an approach suited to each client rather than “one size fits all” counselling.
My role is to help you through this process without judgement, or telling you what to do. I may on occasions give information or offer suggestions and if you felt comfortable, and with your agreement, use hypnotherapy as one of the ways to assist us in this process. If at any time I feel I cannot help you in some way, I will offer to refer you to someone who can. I encourage clients to be autonomous and to discover their own strengths and I help them to have the knowledge and internal resources to enable to them to do so.
The terms ‘counselling’ and ‘psychotherapy’ are often used as they are different things but both simply mean helping someone using pyschological means. However Counselling is generally regarded for shorter term, less deep routed issues and Pscychotherapy for more complex and deep seated issues.
I work with clients in a variety of ways including CBT and REBT (a similar form to CBT using rational thoughts to look at thinking patterns) and my counselling style is conversational and informative as you can see from my video on the home page. You can email me on jean@justonesmallstep.uk.com
