It’s nearly the “Silly Season” again aka Christmas
Christmas will soon be upon us and with all that entails for each of us. But however we do (or don’t) celebrate Christmas it does seem to bring a certain expectation that we can act out of character and it’s ok. We often partake in the wearing of loosely disguised paper napkins on our heads as hats while seeking to be witting and charming and getting incredibly drunk by the minute which results in us being either extremely loud and annoying or morose and incoherent. To further aid total dedication to the silly season we usually then decide that it’s a good idea to dance on tables (or worse – “Dad/Mum Dance”) before we crash and burn, usually embarrassingly. I love Christmas. I love socialising and dancing but I often wonder why some of us go just a little bit off the rails when we are welcoming Christmas in. Are we so restrained in our lives that we use Christmas (and other such holidays) to let out all our pent up stuff? A bit like a gas cannister just waiting to spill it’s gas out at terrific speed the moment the switch is turned. I wonder what Christmas would be like if we dealt with our “gas” as it arose throughout the year rather than bottle it all up so it can “escape” the moment we have an excuse to “turn the switch”. Yet another condumdrum of the ways of the human being!!
