DO YOU SUFFER FROM ANXIETY?
Firstly, you are not alone. Secondly, if you have been battling with your anxiety alone for a while it’s time to get some help as you might have thought you had lost some battles to control it but you can win the war!
There are all sorts of anxiety Social, Health, General, OCD, etc etc. and anxiety generally arises when we let stress run away with itself. If we are in the jungle and a tiger is chasing us we are in danger and getting (justifiably in this case) anxious is the body’s way of responding to that danger by getting the Adrenaline going. Adrenaline is rushed into our blood stream which prepares our body to deal with the situation hence why we feel the physical symptoms of anxiety. As our heart begins to race our breathing gets faster and our muscles tense in preparation of the battle ahead. We begin to sweat and our digestion starts to slow down causing us to have a dry mouth and feel nauseous.
Sometimes however we allow our imagination(based on our faulty thinking) to create a perceived danger and therefore our body gears up in exactly the same way. And as our mind doesn’t stop to think if this is a real or imagined situation we can fire this response off indiscriminately – a bit like a car alarm going off because it is faulty. As it is our faulty thinking that can cause our over anxious anxiety we need to identify it so we can unravel our thinking and behaviours that leads to us feeling this way. It is normal to be concerned about situations but when it spirals into anxiety and panic it is not useful or helpful. Especially as you usually aren’t in the situation of extreme danger – it’s that little old imagination of yours making mischief.
Just as we have learned our coping strategies for keeping us “safe”, we can unlearn them. To find out how you can do that just contact me via www.justonesmallstep.uk.com.
