ARE YOU HUNG OVER TODAY – AGAIN?
Feeling fragile today? Had a bit too much of a ‘Great’ weekend? What made it ‘Great’? Can you remember it even?
If you find yourself feeling a little ‘rough’ on rare occasions, then I get it. Sometimes we just need to blow off a little steam and although it might not be very PC for a Counsellor to say, we do live in the real World which can get a little stressful, and routine, and sometimes we like to ‘break out’ and in doing that sometimes we might overdo it.
However, this is a World away from spending days/weekends on an increasingly regular basis ‘off our faces’ in the name of ‘fun’. If this latter way is a common theme for you, this is not just about ‘blowing off steam’ this is becoming an unhealthy coping mechanism called addiction.
Whilst how we spend our time is a personal choice, and perhaps it might have been in the beginning, by the time someone gets to figure out the position they are in with any form of addiction, sometimes it is no longer a choice but a way of life. No one would choose to be addict. No one would choose to sleep rough on the streets or even think that it as a possibility for them. However, when you use an addictive habit as a way of coping with your unwanted feelings such as social anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties etc it can spiral so far out of control that it is hard to find the energy to put effort into changing it or even know how to start.
If you or those that care about you are becoming concerned about your drinking/substance use, give it some serious thought and decide whether you really want it to end up with you disappearing down the rabbit hole of serious addiction. If you don’t, then contact me on jean@justonesmallstep.uk.com to arrange a 15 minute non therapeutic taster session to see how I can help. I work Face to Face in Haywards Heath, West Sussex or Globally online via Skype.
